... Ende der sechziger Jahre fingen einige Strötzbacher Jungs unter dem Namen „Oldtimers“ an, Rockmusik zu machen. Häufig spielten sie im Saalbau „Zum Hirschen“ in Brücken. Damals waren die Säle meist ziemlich leer. Die jungen Musiker übten aber unverdrossen weiter. Sie nannten sich „Modern Sound“. Ihr Publikum wuchs und wuchs. Ihre Musik wurde immer besser. Dann nannte sich die Gruppe „Chicahlgrund“. Der Namensteil „cahlgrund“ symbolisierte Herkunft und Bodenständigkeit der Band. Die amerikanische Formation „Chicago“ war das musikalische Vorbild der Musiker. Mit den Songs dieser Band gelang es „Chicahlgrund“, ihr Können darzustellen. Wo die Gruppe auch auftrat: Immer waren die Hallen überfüllt. Ob in Brücken, in der Kahler Festhalle, im „Heuboden“ in Blankenbach oder in den Festzelten des Untermains. „Chicahlgrund“ war Kult. Auch „auswärts“ feierten sie Triumphe.

Musikalisches Rückgrad war wohl Roland Junker. Der Strötzbacher Saxophonist und Flötist gab sich nie mit dem Erreichten zufrieden und versuchte, die Band ständig zu verbessern. So kamen immer wieder neue Musiker hinzu, so die bekannten Sänger Ute Weber und Peter Müller. Von der Stammbesetzung blieben außerdem Gerald Junker, Manfred Iffland, Karlheinz Amberg und Wolfgang Dehmel der Gruppe treu. Eine große Stärke der Gruppe war die Vielseitigkeit. So begeisterten sie nicht nur mit Bläser-Stücken von Chicago und Blood, Sweat & Tears, sondern auch mit Liedern von Eric Burdon, Jethro Tull, Manfred Mann oder Jimi Hendrix. Urplötzlich, im Jahr 1979, auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Popularität, hörten sie auf. Noch ein einziges Mal, 1992 im Festzelt in Somborn, traten sie auf. Tausende von Fans waren gekommen – der Auftritt war ein Erfolg.

Immer wieder kamen Gerüchte auf, dass „Chicahlgrund“ wieder auferstehen würde: - die Nachfolgeband von Chicahlgrund mit der Musik von Chicago und Blood Sweat & Tears:

Roland und Gerald Junker haben mit ihrem jüngeren Bruder Uwe, als Frontman von „Modern Sound“ in der Szene wohl bekannt, das Projekt „Chicahlgo“ realisiert. Man sieht sich in der Tradition von „Chicahlgrund“. Die Initiatoren des Projekts haben es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, junge Leute für diese relativ anspruchsvolle Musik zu begeistern. Im Zentrum dieser Musik steht die Bläsergruppe mit Stefan Seuffert und Josef Winter [Trompete], Gerald Junker [Posaune] und Wolfgang Eichhorn, Daniel Seuffert [Saxophon]. Für den Rhythmus sind Bassist Thomas Leilich und der Drummer Simon Blank zuständig. Gitarre spielt Daniel Blank, Keyboarder ist Michael Bogner. Flötist Roland Junker begeistert das Publikum wie in alten Zeiten. Fachleute berichten, dass sich die Sängergruppe mit Jessica Kiaubs, Jeanette und Rosi Junker und dem bewährten Uwe Junker nicht hinter ihren berühmten Vorgängern verstecken muss ...

It happened in the later 60ies that some guys of the small village Strötzbach (in Bayern, Germany) started to play some rockmusic. They called themselves the “Oldtimers”. They focused on performing in the hall “Zum Hirschen” (lit. ‘at the deer’) in Brücken, which is in fact the even smaller neighbour of Strötzbach. At that time they hadn’t that much visitors – but they practised nevertheless. They were changing their name into “Modern Sound” soon after and the audience increased one by one such as their music became better and better.

Once again they changed their name, this time it became “Chicahlgrund” – for two good reasons.

The band “Chicago” has always been their very ideal – and – the “cahlgrund” symbolized where they came from. Indeed the region between Kahl and Schöllkrippen is called “Kahlgrund”, they just made it sound a bit more modern, fitting to the modern music they had in mind to be performed.

At that point success rushed in without letting go anymore. Wherever they got on a stage the halls would have been sold out. “Chicahlgrund” had become a local phenomenon – though they encountered the same situation outwards, too.

As some kind of musical spine there is undoubtfully known Roland Junker. The flutist, saxophonist and chorister would have never been settled for the already achieved and was rather trying to advance the staff constantly. So the instrumentation changed some times, for example into the local common singers Ute Weber and Peter Müller. As a permanent staff remained Gerald Junker, Manfred Iffland, Karlheinz Amberg and Wolfgang Dehmel.

Their number of membership caused their very magnitude: Variety.

Chicahlgrund inspired the audience with tunes not only by wind section pieces of Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears but also of Eric Burdon, Jethro Tull, Manfred Mann or Jimi Hendrix. Immediately, in 1979, when they had come across the top of their popularity, they terminated.

Only once they decided to put on some revival, 1992, in Somborn-marquee. Thousands of their following showed up; the act was an over-all-success.

Repeatedly rumours occurred Chicahlgrund would have planned a comeback when actually nothing was in anyone’s mind – but here we go now:

Roland and Gerald Junker – together with the youngest of the three brothers, Uwe Junker, who is well known to the local music scene performing as the leading vocalist of “Modern Sound” – realized the “Chicahlgo” project to become a worthy child. With a fine tradition they go for the same range in variety in a next-generation instrumentation mixture and an even larger assortment of pieces.

“Due to the fabulous staff and concept, there is no need to hide from famous “Chicahlgrund” and the other parent projects”, concertgoers use to say. As to see obviously the aim of the initiators to get younger people into that kind of music worked out. Nearly a third of the current instrumentation is in the twens or at least just reaching thirties. Today their audience contains a mixed up mob beginning at childhood and ending about pensioner’s age.
